Fine Art Print Quality

Many of my photographs are larger than what could normally be achieved in a single snap of the camera. This is because I stitch together a lot of my photographs. This allows for printing at much larger sizes than normal photos. Many of my panorama images are done this way. I have decided to show a few samples of the quality of these images below.

For a showing of all the images that are in large format, you can view my gallery of large format photos here.

I took one of my favorites, Spiez Castle on Thunersee, a large panorama I took in Spiez, Switzerland and cut out samples of the image to show the quality of the photograph. I chose this photo as an example because it's almost a Where's Waldo photo. There are many different events going on if you view this photo at it's full size. You can make out tourists playing soccer at the harbor, people laying out in the sun in their backyard, locals strolling through the streets and many other things. You can spent quite a bit of time observing the Swiss lake culture by looking into the details of this photograph in it's full size.

The following cropped images are the equivalent of viewing a 90"x36" print. Keep in mind prints at 300dpi, where web resolution is only 72dpi. In Photoshop, this is the equivalent of viewing the full-size 300dpi image at 33% in size. I've basically sized these images to give you a realistic impression of a photo printed at 90"x36".

This first image shows the harbor of Spiez, a little over 2/3rds of a mile from where I shot the panorama. This picture inside a picture shows tourists and locals enjoying a day out by the lake.

This image shows the castle grounds, around a mile away. You can make out the individual people, along with the beautiful castle gardens on the lawn.

The other side of the lake, as shown in the above and below photos, is over 3 miles away. Sailboats drift across the lake and if you look closely you can even make out individual cars in these images.

Another of my large format photos that is not even remotely done justice on this website is the Gornergrat panorama from near Zermatt, Switzerland. You can't even see some of the most important details without zooming way in. Below are two samples of pictures within this picture that give you an idea of the details of a print at full size.

In the above high resolution detail cut-out shot, you see two people standing over the edge of the cliff, with chamois (the Alps version of a mountain goat) below.

The above image details the intracite waterflow on the glacier. One of the things I've always loved about glaciers is the deep blue color that the water takes on.

Shot near the First gondola station, The Eiger And Grindelwald Valley shows the entire Grindelwald valley all the way across to the famous north face of the Eiger. Across the valley to the right stands the Mannlichen, with Kliene Schiedegg further along the ridge near the Jungfrau.

On the cliffs below the First gondola, a paraglider was preparing his equipment for what I'm sure was a thrilling ride down into the Grindelwald valley.

This picture inside a picture shows the Grindelwald valley with it's many hotels and buildings a mile below.

Over half a mile away, you can see a man standing outside his car taking in the gorgeous view of the entire Grindelwald valley.

Almost three miles away you can make out the final buildings and houses that stand before the Kliene Schiedegg train station.
