Located in the Haute-Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region, Chamonix lays at the base of the tallest mountain the Alps, Mont Blanc. Unfortunately I only managed to spend 2 nights in the Chamonix region, but managed to see a few notable places in the area. The famous Mer De Glace is France's largest glacier, and second to the Aletsch Glacier in all of the Alps. If there is any place I've traveled to that I want to revisit, it's this location, as there was so much more to do that weather and time did not permit. A trip across to Courmayeur and Aosta in Italy via the cable car up to l'Aiguille du Midi is a must. And the 120-mile Tour de Mont Blanc trek is definitely on my to-do list.
