Flint Hills National Scenic Byway - Kansas drive

Flint Hills National Scenic Byway

The Flint Hills National Scenic Byway is one of the premier drives in all of Kansas. Starting at Cassoday, it weaves it's way through stunning tallgrass Flint Hills prairie, stopping through the towns of Cottonwood Falls and Strong City before finishing up at Council Grove. There are many wonderful stops along the way. The Sante Fe Trail intersects the byway, and a number of waterfalls are just off the road. Cottonwood Falls, located in the town of the same name, can be seen right off the road. And if you take a 5 minute detour to the west of Cottonwood Falls to Chase State Fishing Lake you'll find the very scenic Prather Creek Falls. Further north is the crown jewel of the Flint Hills Scenic Byway, the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, which covers over 10,000 acres of land and is managed by both National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy.
