Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located near Strong City in the Flint Hills of Kansas. It is joint-managed by the National Park Service and the Nature Conservancy. In fact, it's the only part of land at least partially managed by the National Park Service in all of Kansas! It includes some of the finest hiking trails in Kansas, with trails that run through the tallgrass prairie, along hillsides, down in valleys and into the wooded creek beds. Bison roam parts of the land, and you may spot coyotes, deer and all sorts of birds on a walk through the preserve. There are also a number of historic buildings in the preserve, such as the Lower Fox Creek Schoolhouse.
