About the Photo: First Light
This popular viewpoint at Dallas Divide near Ridgway, Colorado is an amazing place to see the changing of the seasons. Not only do the aspens change from green to hues or yellow, orange and gold, but the underbrush can take on vivid deep reds as well. What I love about this spot though, is the first touch of light on the layers of autumn colors. While the peaks themselves receive the first rays of light, it takes another 15 minutes or so for the sun to rise high enough to crest the mountains in the east and flood this scene with warm sunlight. Those first 30 seconds or so that the sun hits the tops of these trees produces an amazing soft light that just glows with warmth! Within 30 seconds or so, the light gets harsher, though still beautiful. But that first light is something to behold!
