About This Photograph
A beautiful tree tunnel is light up by early morning light. It took quite a few tries to get a frame without any vehicles in it, but I managed one at least! Legend has it that all of these tree lined roads in Provence were ordered by Napoleon so that his soldiers could march in shade. Whether it is true or not, they at least make for pretty photography! These trees are known as Plane trees.
Early morning light filters through a tunnel of plane trees. Located along a road in the Luberon region of Provence, I had to make several attempts waiting for traffic to clear with the road finally opening up just long enough to capture this uninterrupted moment.
Legend has it that Napoleon ordered these tree-lined roads so soldiers could march in the shade. Whether true or not, they form some of the most beautiful tree tunnels in southern France, adding to the charm and beauty of the region.
Photographed in a vertical format, this image works especially well in stairwells, narrow wall spaces and entryways. Hung in these spaces, the image draws your eyes in where the depth of the road naturally pulls the viewer inward.
