Gornergrat, Zermatt, Switzerland
Photographic Story
This photo was taken from the top of the Gornergrat rail station near Zermatt, Switzerland. This sweeping panorama doesn't even begin to do justice to the sheer size of what is seen. The giant Gorner glacier is thousands of feet down the rocky cliffs, and the mountains across the glacier seperate the border between Switzerland and Italy. The left-most mountain is Monte Rosa, Switzerlands tallest mountain, and while not shown in the picture, the famous Matterhorn is to the right of the mountains you see here. The quality of the full-size version of this photo show the pools and streams of emerald-blue glacial water on the Gorner glacier below.
