Acrylic Prints as Fine Art

My signature series acrylic prints are certainly the most immersive way I offer my photography. They present an image with a sense of depth and dimensionality that feels three-dimensional on the wall. In an acrylic print, light passes through the acrylic surface and interacts with the image beneath. This gives the photograph a presence that commands attention and leaves an impression on anyone who views it.

When scale and size matters, acrylic is the medium I recommend. When the room deserves a focal point, acrylic prints are the best option to make that statement. These beautiful prints feel both modern and substantial while creating a surface that responds beautifully to light.

Why Acrylic Prints Are My Highest-End Presentation

I’ve printed my work on nearly every type of medium available over the years. From paper and canvas to unique styles like plaque mount. All have a place in the art world. But a high definition acrylic print is on another level! It offers something fundamentally different when you consider the stunning clarity, depth and surface quality of an acrylic print. In an acrylic print, the fine details, subtle color transitions and atmospheric look shows in jaw-dropping ways. Chosing acrylic as a medium in landscape photography makes that light and scale stand out even more.

Acrylic prints are also frameless by design. They floating cleanly off the wall and come ready to hang immediately. They feel modern and intentional and require no matting to hide edges or reduce impact. In fact, the ready-to-hang frameless look really allows the artwork to stand out for itself and puts the focus on the piece.

What Makes an Acrylic Print Different From Other Wall Art

A true fine art acrylic print is not a poster print behind plastic. Every step in the process is of the highest quality. A proper acrylic print starts with a beautiful paper print. It is then face-mounted and sealed behind optical-grade acrylic. Archival adhesives and a backing layer are used, providing long-term protection for the print and rigidity for large sizes. The result is a truly magnificent piece of art that feels solid, refined and purposely built for display.

Depth, Light and Viewing Experience

This is where acrylic truly shines. Put under proper lighting, an acrylic print takes on a sense of depth that feels almost backlit. So much so that when I meet people at art festival events, they will sometimes try to peek behind my prints to see if there is a hidden light behind them. When lit well, highlights will glow softly and the shadows hold incredible detail while colors remain rich without becoming oversaturated. This effect becomes more pronounced as print size increases, which is why acrylic is my preferred medium for statement pieces, on feature walls and in large-format installations.

Acrylic Prints in Real Spaces

While an acrylic print can look great in any space, you can create a truly timeless look in your space by keeping some of these aspects in mind:

  • Controlled natural or directional lighting
  • Clean wall space where the piece can breathe
  • Viewing distance that allows scale to be appreciated

They are especially well suited for modern homes, offices, architectural interiors and contemporary collections. For collectors seeking the absolute highest level of surface performance, I also offer an upgraded acrylic option using TruLife acrylic glass, which further reduces reflections and enhances contrast. Just shoot me an email to find out more about how to upgrade to TruLife acrylic.

Sizes, Mounting and Presentation

All acrylic prints arrive ready to hang using a rear-mounted float system that holds the artwork slightly off the wall for a clean, gallery-style presentation. By doing this, the floating mount gives the piece visual separation from the wall. This allows light and shadow to subtly define the edges without the need for traditional framing.

Acrylic is especially well suited for larger print sizes. Considering the rigidity of the material, combined with the face-mount presentation, acrylic prints scale beautifully without feeling delicate or overwhelming. Even at incredibly large sizes, details remain crisp, colors hold their depth and the print maintains a sense of solidity that fits extremely well in open spaces and rooms with longer viewing distances.

By using the float-mounted design, it keeps the focus entirely on the image itself. The artwork appears to hover on the wall while creating a modern, intentional presence that feels architectural rather than decorative. Whether you decide to display it frameless or paired with an external luxury frame, acrylic prints are built to feel substantial, refined and purpose-made for display.

External Framing Options for Acrylic Prints

While acrylic prints are designed ready-to-hang without the need of an external frame, some collectors prefer the added elegance and architectural presence of an external frame. For those collectors, I offer timeless framed art in both metal and acrylic mediums. I offer optional hand-made Italian moulding frames from ROMA Moulding that are built specifically to complement acrylic and metal without competing with it.

FINISH HERE!!! Styles like Tabacchino Dark Ash add a refined edge that works especially well in modern and transitional interiors. Hand-crafted in Tuscany, Italy, the natural wood tone softens the presentation slightly while making sure to preserve the clean and contemporary feel that makes acrylic prints so striking in the first place. Coupled together, a ROMA framed acrylic piece creates a purely luxurious presentation.

Externally framed acrylic prints maintain their floating presence, gaining a sense of intentional structure. With the artwork visually separated from the wall, this option is ideal for collectors who want the depth and clarity of acrylic paired with the warmth and craftsmanship of a luxury frame. This look is particularly impressive in larger rooms or spaces with strong architectural lines. You can learn more about my framed art to see if it is a good fit for your acrylic piece.
