Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Hiking Trails
With many miles of trails in the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve park system, there is a trail for all skill levels! From a short 1 mile hike to see the tallgrass to a difficult 13+ mile round trip trek to the end of the West Branch Trail. The Scenic Overlook Trail affords beautiful sweeping views of the surrounding Flint Hills, while the shorter Bottomland Nature Trail should give you a good idea of what the riparian prairie is like. Other trails offer sweeping vistas, wildlife watching and flowing creeks to walk near. If you're venturing onto one of the trails that enters Windmill Pasture, be warned that bison are freely roaming this area. They should be treated with the respect they deserve. It is recommended to stay at least 25 yards away from any bison.
